Your Child’s First Dental Visit
Children should have their first dental visit no later than the age of three. After we complete your child’s dental exam, we’ll demonstrate proper teeth cleaning techniques and discuss how to prevent adverse oral habits. Since children love to show how many things they can do on their own, let them brush their teeth either before or after you. You should continue brushing their teeth twice a day until you’re confident they are doing a proper, thorough job – usually around the age of five or six.
Dental Sealants
One of the main reasons why children have a higher risk of developing cavities than adults is because they are not yet properly trained when it comes to brushing and flossing their teeth. With dental sealants, we can offer a bit of extra protection to developing smiles. A thin layer of plastic material helps seal the teeth near the back of the mouth away from bacteria and plaque. This makes it less likely that your child will develop a cavity in a hard-to-reach area.
Athletic Mouthguards
Has your child taken an interest in football, basketball, or another contact sport? To make sure their smiles are well protected, you need to make sure that they have a mouthguard that they’re actually willing to use. Our dental practice provides custom mouthguards designed based on impressions of your child’s smile; this gives them an ideal fit on the teeth. Your young athlete will be much less likely to “forget” to wear a mouthguard that doesn’t cause unnecessary discomfort.
